Services: Construction Litigation

Conkie & Company has been acting as counsel for owners in leaky building litigation since its inception in 1993, although Ms. Conkie's first leaky condo case was in the late 1980s.

The firm is used to multi-party litigation and managing the complex issues that arise in construction law. We have acted in cases involving large-scale repairs and building envelope remediations and have advised numerous owners on more minor deficiencies and water penetration problems. We enjoy working with building envelope engineers and other experts in the field. We are committed to exploring all options both in litigation and mediation.

Our clients have come from all sides of a construction problem, from the owners to the subtrades, but our present practice is mainly focussed on leaky buildings and representing owners, strata councils and housing co-operatives.

Jennifer Conkie

Conkie & Company is featured in a videotape provided by the Homeowner Protection Office: Managing Leaky Condo Repairs and over the last few years has appeared regularly on HPO panels at public meetings in the Lower Mainland and on other occasions to address public concerns about the leaky building crisis.

We monitor the activities of the Construction Law Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch) and attend occasional meetings of industry and professional associations, such as the Building Envelope Council, as well as participating in other conferences in this area. We do our best to keep abreast of construction law developments in British Columbia, conferring regularly with experts to seek solutions to building envelope problems that have already occurred and to establish preventative programs, legislative and otherwise, for the future.
